9 to 5 the Musical

"Three unlikely friends take control of their office and learn there is nothing they can't do, even in a man's world" (Music Theatre International). With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and based on the hit 1980 film by the same name, I took on this project because I believed strongly in its feminist message and wanted to present a work that celebrates women's accomplishments while providing audiences with permission to let go and have fun. I took a character-centered approach, focusing on the journeys of each of the three main women. I also incorporated elements of fairytale to reconcile the lighthearted nature of the plot with its more pressing and urgent messages.
